Care Instructions

Animal hides can last a lifetime when treated well, but signs of wear will give it character and a uniqueness like no other. Though the integrity of the fan can withstand daily use, it is your duty to treat and look after it. Please keep the fan away from direct heat sources over extended periods of time, using the dust bag provided when not in use. Never submerge your fan in water as this will cause hair/skin to lose its suppleness, become brittle and break/crack respectively.
Patent Fans
A dampened cloth can be used to clean sticky spillages, followed by a soft dry microfibre cloth in a circular motion to buff and restore its glossiness. Pigmented stains can occur so please avoid colourants such as dyes, inks, and coloured foods. You may wish to use a nourishing treatment for conditioning, and a patent leather protective spray when required. Though stains in patents are extremely difficult to remove, there are options including patent cleaners which we do not currently provide.
Hair on Fans
If provided with more than one brush, use one per colour to avoid colour transfer, brushing in the direction of the hair. After each use, wash your brush with a mild soap and leave to air dry. If you need to remove a light mark or spot clean, spray a cleaning solution sparingly, and then use a clean microfibre cloth to dab gently in the direction of the hair. Never scrub, as friction will thin the hair. Intense marks may require harsher solutions but prevent this by avoiding stains. Avoid using heavy creams on your hands when using the fan – this is to avoid oil transferring to your fan.
Allow the fan to dry in an open space for approximately 24 hours; once dried to touch, brush to realign misplaced hair. Each fan has been protective sprayed, but you may wish to use a protective and nourishing treatment for conditioning.
Silver Cleaning
Use the silver polishing cloth every now and again to keep your silver looking shiny and bright.
